Benefits of a Crossroad’s Membership

Ever wonder what a membership in the Crossroads Blues Society will do for you? Before I answer that question, let me tell you how we use your membership dues.

The first ongoing use of dues is for the production of our newsletter every other month and the cost of postage to mail copies to our members and numerous record companies. The content of the newsletter is generated by members who volunteer to write articles, take pictures, review blues CD’s, etc. We make photocopies of the pages rather than have the newsletter professionally printed – this saves us money that can be used for our truly important project.

Most of the monies raised through memberships are spent on our portion of the costs to provide Blues in the Schools programs in the greater Rockford/ Freeport area. This is our third year of bringing professional blues musicians who have a gift for working with children to the area to teach students about the original American art form known as Blues music. We have been fortunate to receive generous grants for the programs from the Rockford Area Arts Council and The Community Foundation of Northern Illinois. Their funds pay part of the cost. The rest comes from money we raise from dues and also from in-kind donations of time and equipment from members to schedule and coordinate these programs. Bottom-line, we could not continue Blues in the Schools without your support.

The benefits of an annual Crossroads membership include:

-  Six issues of Blueseye, our newsletter featuring reviews, interviews and updates on upcoming shows

-  You can check out up to 5 discs at one time from the Crossroads CD Library – give a listen to musicians you aren’t familiar with – no risk!!!

-  Discounts on some shows throughout the year

-  Right to vote at meetings – help us to decide the future of our organization

-  Lastly, make new Blues friends while having fun enjoying the music we all love!!!

If you have been a member and have not renewed your membership, please consider sending in a payment. Our next round of Blues in the Schools programs is being planned for October.

If you aren’t already a member, what are you waiting for???
