Crossroads Plans for Blues in the Schools Programs in October!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Area students will get another opportunity to learn about Blues music next month when Crossroads sponsors two more days of Blues in the Schools programs in the Rockford/Freeport area.

We are in the process of setting the schedule of schools to visit on Thursday & Friday, October14-15. Our hope is to be able to arrange a total of nine programs in the two days.

Schools we are contacting include Freeport Jr. High, the Byron School District for the first time, Hononegah High School and several new Rockford schools.

I am pleased to announce that Fruteland Jackson and Michael “Hawkeye” Herman have once again committed to helping us. Both musicians have a long history of working with students of all ages to educate them about the root of most of our music, the blues. They have been well received in their previous visits by both kids and their teachers.

Also being worked on is a possible evening concert with Fruteland and Hawkeye at the Hononegah H.S. Performing Arts Center. Each of them would do a solo set and then they would play together, for the first time, in a closing set. Stay tuned for more details as we firm up the final arrangements.

Blues in the Schools programs are made possible with funds from grants awarded to Crossroads by the Rockford Area Arts Council and the Community Arts & Humanities Fund of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois. We once again want to express our deep appreciation and thanks to both organizations for their generous support of music education.
