Buddy Guy - Blues Singer  Silvertone Records

Buddy Guy has done it again. Following the success of his last recording
Sweet Tea, Buddy delivers another gem. On Sweet Tea, Buddy started things off with
the song "Done Got Old," which was an indication of what was yet to come.
Blues Singer is Buddy's tribute to the Muddy Waters' release Folk Singer, a 1963
recording on Chess records featuring acoustic blues that included a young
Buddy Guy on second guitar. At Chess Records in Chicago, there is a huge
photograph on the wall of the studio, capturing the moment with Muddy, Buddy and Willie
Dixon.
This CD was recorded in June 2002 with producer Dennis Herring (Counting
Crows, Cracker, Jars of Clay) at his Sweet Tea Studios in Oxford, MS. The disc was
then mixed by Ed Cherney (Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan) and
engineered by Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Smash Mouth). Musicians on this recording
include Jim Keltner on drums, Tony Garnier on upright bass, James 'Jimbo' Mathus
on guitar and slide guitar.
Buddy covers classic blues from John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Skip James and
Jack Owens. Eric Clapton and B.B.King accompany Buddy on "Crawlin'
Kingsnake." Clapton is also featured on the song "Lucy Mae Blues."
This is pure blues, plain and simple. When you put it on, you are inviting
Buddy to come into your living room. It is so comfortable. It has that magical
effect of making time stand still. You will travel back in time enjoying
Buddy's version of songs by Johnny Shines, Smokey Hogg, Franke Lee Sims and Son
House. The combination of Buddy's vocals and the music blends together to deliver
the perfect Sunday morning blues. Pop this CD in your disc player; put your
headphones on, and the magic will happen.
