Ms. Kane has worked as a stripper and a porn star before starting her career as a singer/songwriter. Her latest disc proves that she made a smart decision. Backed by a stellar group of Texas musicians, Kane romps through a collection of mostly original blues, R&B and rock tunes. The disc opens with the title tune that has Kane boasting proudly about her roots. Many of her songs deal with women’s issues as one can readily deduce from titles like “Estrogen Bomb”, “Queen of the Wrecking Ball” and “Mistress Carmen”. One song that will certainly cause a reaction is “Masturbation Blues”. This tune is a rockin’ jump Blues with Kane’s big voice riding over the surging rhythm. Candye has never been shy about her sexuality !!! Another highlight is a cover of Bull Moose Jackson’s classic “Big Fat Mamas are Back in Style”, with the horn section blasting in support of fine vocal from Kane. The performance is right on - one would think that this song was written especially for her. I love the rendition the Lovin’ Spoonful hit “What a Day for a Daydream”, turning the tune into a shuffle with Riley Osbourn’s organ and Jeff Ross on guitar laying down a solid foundation for Candye’s playful singing. Kane has fashioned an excellent effort from start to finish with plenty of musical highlights. The recording features a variety of styles and exciting new songs from Kane that add up to one of the best recordings I’ve heard in awhile – and that makes this one highly recommended !!!
