Standing
Room Only
Roomful of Blues underwent a reawakening with the decision several years ago to return to their roots- the jump blues sound from the post World War II era. Their latest rocks from start to finish with driving horn charts, fine guitar from leader Chris Vachon and outstanding vocals from the big voice of Mark DuFresne. The disc features eight originals from various band members and six rarely heard tunes from the likes of Little Milton, Lowell Fulson and Roy Brown. Highlights include two slow blues numbers, a Vachon original “The Love You Lost on the Way“ and “Sufferin’ With the Blues”, which showcase DuFresne’s vocal abilities. Long-time member Rich Lataille penned an instrumental tribute to the late tenor sax great Illinois Jacquet titled “Straight Jaquette“, which gives the three piece horn section their turn in the spotlight. The rest of the tracks will jump, bounce and swing their way into your consciousness and have you dancing in no time. Standing Room Only is the band’s second release for Alligator and the 14th of it’s lengthy history. It is also one of best recordings they have done and is highly recommended for your listening enjoyment.
