Tony Joe White Yes, the
"Polk Salad Annie" man is still out there writing, playing and recording. I saw
him last year in a club in New Orleans during Jazzfest. When I tried to describe
him to people after that night, the only description that came close to
capturing what I heard was to say that John Lee Hooker's spirit had come back to
Earth and was now residing in the body of a white guitar man from the Louisiana
swamps. Tony did a mesmerizing performance that night with just his electric
guitar and a drummer. The new release gives you some idea of his live sound.
Tony's music incorporates rock, blues and soul influences to create a sound that
is unmistakably his. This one is a solid effort that should win Tony Joe some
new fans. |
